Conditioning in shampoo bars is a narrow lane. Customers want softness and easier combing, but they still expect the bar to rinse clean and leave hair with movement.
Use the Rinse as the Judge
A formula can feel beautiful while being worked between wet hands and still disappoint after drying. Judge conditioning by wet comb, dry feel, root lift, and repeat-use buildup.
Choose Materials by Hair Type
Cationic guar, polyquaterniums, fatty alcohols, esters, and small amounts of oils can all help, but they do different jobs. Fine hair usually punishes excess deposition quickly.
Keep Claims Honest
If the product is positioned as shampoo, the formula should first cleanse well. Conditioning can be meaningful without promising to replace a separate conditioner for every hair type.
